Posting the biggest fall in more than a year, retail sales dropped last month, increasing the risk of another economic contraction. The British Retail Consortium said this week that the like-for-like retail sales dropped by 3.3% in value terms compared to April 2011 despite a 1.3% increase in March.

Following the expiration of the first time buyers tax break, the Halifax has reported that house prices fell 2.4% in April, which is the smallest annual fall in house prices since 2010 according to the Halifax.
